Our Good Works in the Community segment this month spotlights Canine Companions, a nonprofit organization that has served people with disabilities since 1975. We are excited to tell you more about their work.
In fact, one of our staff members strongly supports Canine Companions and has a good friend who has received their services. Over the years, her friend has received three service dogs from Canine Companions.
At its core, Canine Companions enhances people’s lives by providing trained service dogs at no charge to recipients. As a result, these service dogs help people with disabilities live with greater independence.
Their site says it best:
“Independence shouldn’t be limited to those who look or live a certain way. Disability reaches all races, classes and backgrounds, and Canine Companions will too. Clients come to Canine Companions because of our reputation, the quality of our dogs, the experience of our training staff and the desire to lead life with greater independence. We are committed to providing services to all qualified clients.”
Today, Canine Companions serves adults, children, veterans, and professionals across the U.S.
Additionally, there are many ways you can support Canine Companions. For example, you can volunteer. You can also attend DogFest, start a fundraiser, become a community supporter, or advocate. In addition, you could help spread the word on social media.
