A Look Back at the History of Coverage

Believe it or not, insurance dates back to ancient Babylon under the Hammurabi Code of Laws.

This collection of 282 rules established standards for business interactions throughout the empire.

As a result, these rules helped pave the way for justice and many modern-day laws.

Among these laws, early forms of coverage helped businesses manage and share financial risks.

Over time, these laws influenced many cultures, including the Egyptian, Mayan, and Roman empires.

The Development of Modern Coverage

Centuries later, modern insurance developed in England during the 17th century.

By the early 1730s, this approach to financial protection had made its way to Charleston, South Carolina.

Then, in 1752, Benjamin Franklin founded the Philadelphia Contributionship for the Insurance of Houses.

It became one of the first companies of its kind in the United States.

Additionally, the company established a fire prevention code that helped influence fire safety regulations.

These regulations eventually influenced fire safety practices in Philadelphia and across the United States.

More Ways to Protect What Matters

Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, providers developed different types of coverage to meet growing needs.

Today, common options include home, renters, flood, automobile, motorcycle, health, life, disability, and long-term care coverage.

Other options include workers’ compensation and umbrella policies.

For new movers, these protections can become especially important.

72% of new movers indicated they will need a variety of insurance products.

Ultimately, the right coverage can benefit individuals and businesses while also supporting society as a whole.

When managed responsibly, these protections can provide important benefits in more ways than we may realize.

Some of these benefits include:

  1. Payment of covered losses
  2. Managing cash flow uncertainties
  3. Complying with legal requirements
  4. Promoting risk control activity
  5. Using the insured’s resources efficiently
  6. Supporting the insured’s credit
  7. Providing a source of investment funds
  8. Reducing social burden

Connecting New Movers With Trusted Agents

At Welcome Wagon, we highly value our long-term partnerships with agents across the country.

In fact, we consider these agents important partners in helping new movers settle into their communities.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect new movers with professionals who can help protect their homes and families.

After all, the right coverage plays an important role in protecting a new home before and after a move.

It can also provide peace of mind and financial support when accidents happen.

Protection for Every Stage of Life

Beyond home coverage, new movers may also need health and life policies.

Our agents offer Medicare plans and coverage from many major brands.

These brands include AARP, Aetna, Humana, Florida Blue, WellCare, UnitedHealthcare, AdventHealth, CarePlus, and New York Life.

Additionally, new movers should remember another important family member: their pets!

Pet insurance can help families prepare for unexpected veterinary expenses after settling into their new homes.

Celebrating Our Partnerships

Finally, we want to welcome our newest partners and recognize the agents who have worked with us for years.

Our long-standing partnerships include agents from GEICO, State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide, American Advantage, and American Family.

We also work with independent agencies throughout the country.

Most importantly, some of our longest-running partners have worked with Welcome Wagon for more than 20 years.
